Pluto, known to the Romans as Hades, God of the Underworld fell in love with the beautiful Prosperina (Persphone to the Romans), the Goddess nymph of Spring and daughter of Mother Nature, Demeter.
Demeter, so distraut by the loss of her daughter, caused an endless winter with crops dying in the fields until Zeus intervened, allowing Prosperina to live half of every year with her mother (bringing Spring and Summer), and the other half with Pluto.
Based on the statue by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (right), this beautifully detailed cold cast resin museum replica statue depicts the Pluto abducting Prosperina to the Underworld.
